Gemara Berura can be used in the classroom in a variety of different
ways, according to the pupils' specific needs and ability levels.
Some examples include:
- Using the help tools such as the keyword database and biographical
sketches of the Sages for classes who are just beginning to study
Gemara.
- Teacher presents a flow chart of the suyiya at the beginning
of the lesson, as an advance organizer or "road map" of
the territory to be covered during the lesson.
- Pupils format the Gemara text and create a flow chart as a way
of summarizing what they learnt in class or at home.
- Teachers use pupils' flow charts to detect and correct gaps in
understanding and "map" which aspects of the sugiya need
additional clarification.
- Pupils prepare the sugiya on their own. The teacher then facilitates
a class discussion to compare different versions. Peer evaluation
and the need to defend their version motivates pupils to devote
more time and effort to producing accurate representations of the
sugiya.
